![]() ![]() The key to the tombs is passed down the royal lineage, but as there have been 113 kings before Noctis, many of the tombs and the royal arms they house have been lost to time.Īround 35 years before Final Fantasy XV, Niflheim investigated a royal tomb and discovered an ancient tome whose text convinced Verstael Besithia, one of the empire's leading researchers, that the fabled "Adagium" was real.Īfter Insomnia falls at the hands of the Niflheim Empire, the Marshal of the Crownsguard calls Prince Noctis and asks him to meet at the royal tomb on the Leide region. The weapons they house have special abilities, and the tombs also once had the function of sealing out daemons in their vicinity, but the spells have begun to wear off. When the rulers of yore died, they left their powers behind sealed inside their respective tombs. As the statues at Insomnia are said to hold the souls of the past kings, waiting for the call of the current monarch, the royal tombs seem to also hold the "souls" of the royal arms, as they glow when grasped by their rightful owner and soul crystals emanate from them. They have been erected as a memorial to the king or queen who claimed that piece of land in the name of Lucis. The royal tombs are ancient coffins for Lucian kings, somewhat akin to the statues of the Old Wall in Insomnia.
